The opening of The Trafford Centre over20 years ago kick started the wider development of the TraffordCity which we see today.
TraffordCity is both a progressive destination and one that is steeped in history where remnants of its past continue to be visible today.
The Barton Bridges Heritage area is a site of international importance and is home to three, unique grade 2 star listed structures; The Barton Swing Aqueduct, the only one of its kind in the world, Barton Swing Bridge and Control Tower(pictured above).
The grade 1 listed All Saints Roman Catholic Church also forms part of the Barton-in-Irwell conservation area.
For the long term, we are looking to enhance and restore these historic structures and by reinstating the high level walkway across the Barton Swing Aqueduct it will reconnect the Bridgewater Way, improving connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
