Plans approved to bring specialist dementia care and elderly living homes to Trafford Waters
News | 31 May '23
Innovatively designed homes for elderly living are set to come to Trafford after plans were approved by Trafford Council today (24th May 2023). The homes which will have on-site specialist facilities and amenities for people in need of dementia care, will be part of the first wave of residential developments at Peel L&P’s Trafford Waters.
Specialist healthcare provider Montpelier Estates successfully applied for planning permission to build an 85-bed care home at the Trafford Waters site which sits within TraffordCity, near to the Manchester Ship Canal and The Trafford Centre.
Tailored dementia care and elderly living
Montpelier’s scheme will offer tailored dementia care and elderly living with a range of on-site facilities to encourage socialising in a comfortable, safe and supportive space. An on-site bistro café, hair salon, cinema and rooftop garden will all be created as part of the scheme in Trafford Waters. There will also be space for community events, relaxation and exercise for future residents to enjoy. Several parts of the facility will also be open to the wider public to encourage further interaction and community building.
The homes will be some of the first 350 to be built at Trafford Waters. Montpelier’s plans are part of the first phase of Trafford Waters where Peel L&P has secured outline planning permission for 3,000 new homes to suit a range of needs, a primary school, hotels, offices and a new 20-acre public park to improve people’s health, wellbeing and access to nature. The project is estimated to create over 5,000 new jobs.
Much-needed, specialist home for the local community.
Anna Ciesielska, Director of Montpelier Estates said:
“We are very pleased with the planning decision to approve our bespoke residential and nursing care scheme at Trafford Waters. We are proud be working in partnership with Peel L&P to deliver this high-quality, much-needed, specialist home for the local community.
“We understand that a decision to move to a care home is difficult for residents and their families. That’s why our developments are highly focused on creating spaces where people really want to spend their time and live, where they feel reassured, empowered, cared for, while allowing them to remain independent with good links to the community and local facilities.”
Creating a community for everyone.
James Whittaker, Executive Director of Development at Peel L&P added:
“Trafford Waters is all about creating a community for everyone. We’ve carefully and considerately worked with our partners to create a fully inclusive offering which will include a fantastic mix of homes from affordable and build to rent, to open market homes and elderly living alongside specialist care homes. There will be something for everyone and Trafford Waters will be an exemplar in creating a sustainable mixed tenure community.
“It’s great to continue working in partnership with Montpelier Estates to bring their excellent offering to Trafford Waters. Not only will we be creating much needed new homes with exemplary care facilities, but the impact it will have on our wider community through the creation of new, highly skilled jobs, access to new green spaces and improved wellbeing on the waterside is something we’re really proud to be delivering.”
Trafford Waters is one of Peel L&P’s seven waterfront regeneration schemes across England and Scotland within the Peel Waters portfolio which will create 30,000 homes, 10 million sq ft of commercial space and circa 160 acres of public realm over the next 20 to 25 years.
