Plans unveiled for affordable homes at TraffordCity

Residents are being invited to give their views on plans for a new housing development in TraffordCity at Peel L&P’s Trafford Waters development.

Trafford Housing Trust is bringing forward proposals for 83 apartments on the Trafford side of the Manchester Ship Canal within TraffordCity, next to The Trafford Centre and Trafford Leisure Village. The development intends to deliver one and two-bedroom homes for Shared Ownership, subject to approval from Homes England for grant funding.

The proposals are part of Peel L&P’s wider Trafford Waters development, a scheme that will create 3,000 new homes, public spaces and offices. The development is estimated to create over 5,000 jobs and will include a new primary school plus 20 acres of open spaces for residents, employees and visitors to live, work and play.

The public consultation will take place virtually online, and residents are being encouraged to email any questions they have to THT before the plans are finalised and submitted for planning permission later this year.

A sustainable mixed-use community

Ben Townsend, New Business Director (NW) at Trafford Housing Trust, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to see and comment on our plans prior to a planning application later this year. We’re working with Peel L&P as part of their wider vision to create a sustainable mixed-use community including high quality homes, retail and leisure, offices, a primary school, community facilities, green space and public realm. Greater Manchester and the North West have a real need for affordable housing, and this development is another good example of what we are doing to help tackle the current housing crisis.”

Work has started on phase one infrastructure at Trafford Waters to make way for the first 350 new homes which includes THT’s affordable housing development.

Delivering much-needed affordable housing

“We have started infrastructure works with new roads, pedestrian and cycle routes together with large areas of public realm assisted via a match-funded grant from Homes England to enable the delivery of over 350 homes from the first few phases of housing to be developed.”
